CONDO OR HOTEL?

Savvy travelers stay in private condominiums when traveling!

Why should you choose a private condominium over a hotel? The primary benefits to you are more personal space, more privacy, and economic savings.

PERSONAL SPACE

I'm Nick. As a pilot for a major airline, I travel for a living. I stay in hotel rooms roughly half of every year. I've learned that because most hotel rooms are solitary rooms with perhaps a bed, a desk, and a chair - that they do not provide any real sense of being "at home". Even in the finest 5-Star hotels, though the lobby may be richly appointed with marble and fine furniture, the rooms themselves are "basic" pretty much everywhere. To get a nicer room in a hotel, you'll need to upgrade to a suite. Once you do that, your expenses skyrocket. That is money you could be spending having a good time elsewhere in Maui. Assuming that when it comes to your money, that spending less is better than spending more for similar quality, then I'd readily encourage you to consider a condo visit.

For usually less than the price of a major-chain hotel room, you'll be able to find a nicely appointed condo which will contain everything you'd find in an expensive hotel suite - and a lot more! For less money, you'll get at least one or two bedrooms. A full kitchen. Customized decor. Washers and dryers. You'll get a place which is likely better than an expensive hotel suite, at less than the cost of a basic hotel room. Who wants to live in a hotel? In a nice condo, you probably will find yourself wanting to stay a long, long time because it will begin to feel like your home away from home!

PRIVACY

There is lots of hustle and bustle at most resort hotels.

The pool will likely be crowded.

Step onto your hotel lanai and you'll likely see your neighbors. You may even be able to see into their rooms - and them into yours!

You are surrounded by other visitors and thus, it is easy to feel like you're just part of the transient "vacation mob". Are you coming to Maui to experience a "Manhatten goes to Maui" experience? Or, have you heard of Maui's majestic beauty and want to have a uniquely personal experience with your loved one(s)? Because a well selected private condo really is your "home away from home", you will not feel like just another member of the tourist hoard. A well selected condo will provide for you privacy and intimacy that a hotel room simply cannot.

ECONOMIC SAVINGS

As I mentioned, you'll spend about the same or less than, the price of an ordinary hotel room yet get so much more.To understand why, just consider the issues of overhead and commissions. Big hotels have big bills to pay. You pay their overhead - staff, utilities, shareholder dividends, etc., in the form of expensive hotel bills. Condominium owners don't have to pay travel agent commissions, shareholder dividends, or full time staffs. This means you get more quality living space for your money.

The condo kitchen will save you lots of money. How? Consider meals. If you are in a hotel, and let's say you're a party of four, two adults and two kids, then you'll be buying 12 meals per day. If you are at a hotel, you have three options regarding meals.

We usually reserve 2 or 3 nights for "dinner on the town" - typically dining at one of the fine oceanfront restaurants in Lahaina (only about 5 minutes from our condo). Some nights, we'll dine at the Ritz Carlton. These meals are very enjoyable because there are indeed some very nice restaurants close by, and  because we have saved so much eating other meals at the condo, the dining out expenses are only a fraction of our overall budget.

Having a washer and dryer in your condo also saves you money, and provides remarkable flexibility in your packing. I've learned that to pack light is always the best option. However, if you are staying at a hotel, you ususally don't have the luxury of washing worn clothes. Thus, you have to pack lots of clothes in order to have a fresh daily supply. For a 10 day trip, that's a lot of packing! With just a little planning, you can pack a variety of versatile clothes that can simply be washed and re-worn during your stay. If you send your laundry out to be cleaned at a hotel, look out! You can almost buy a new pair of underwear, for example, for the price of  having them laundered at a hotel. Having a washer and dryer helps you pack lighter (thus getting through the airport more quickly), and saves you lots of money versus hotel laundry services!

For more personal space, privacy, and $avings, a private condo is your best choice!
